Harley Quinn (DC Icons Trilogy) – Written like a friend telling you about their day

I’ve always been a big fan of Harley Quinn. I find her cheery personality entertaining and enjoy watching movies that involve her character.

When I found this series at my library, I was so excited to read it because it was narrated from the perspective of Harley Quinn. Her character was so well developed and thought through that it felt like she was really telling me a story in real time. I almost thought Harley Quinn really existed and she wrote this book because of how good the narration was.

The first book of the trilogy is Harley’s backstory, shaping her character. The other two books involve multiple villains from the DC comics, and Harley goes on missions to stop them. At first, I wasn’t sure if I was going to read the whole trilogy, because I get bored of series fast and find it hard to read multiple books through the same character. But after reading the first book, I really got a sense of who this character is and why she is that way. I felt like I really knew her as a friend and could predict how she’d act and what she’d say next. The story also ended on a cliffhanger so I had to know how the story would end.

I really liked how accurate the characters in this book were to the DC comics. The author didn’t change anything and kept the same personalities as the original characters. It’s interesting how the author writes her own version of Harley’s backstory because the details are different from the comics keeps the same basic story.

One change I liked in this trilogy is Harley isn’t a villain, but more of a vigilante. She still has her same reckless personality but isn’t as evil as the comics depict her. In these books she’s seen as a relatable teenage girl that’s just trying to get through her life. I related to her experiences because the narration really felt like a teenage girl was writing it.

These books are full of action and suspense. The action scene kept me on the edge of my seat, and I was really able to visualize what was going on. It was like watching a fight scene in a movie. When Harley got hurt, I felt bad as if I could see what was happening. During the suspenseful scenes, I was scared for what would happen next and really felt as if I was in the room with her. The story’s full of plot twists and I kept thinking I figured it out the ending but got surprised the more I read. This was not at all predictable and like cliche hero books.

I would definitely recommend this book to teenage girls that love DC and Harley Quinn. It’s such a fun read to live through Harley’s eyes as she figures out who she is. You must read all 3 books because they all connect to each other as if it was one really long book. I really enjoyed reading this trilogy and it’s the first time in a while I’ve read a good, not predictable, action packed series that’s able to keep a story interesting for 3 books.
