Audrey Hepburn – A life of beautiful uncertainty

Every year there’s an Audrey Hepburn book. Most of them are just photographs with some text, which avid fans like me adore.

This is the first book on Audrey I’ve seen that is sized like a coffee table book but is filled with more words than pictures. It aims to be the authority on her life’s work. That’s fine since most fans like me already own several photography books of Audrey.

Lovingly written as a detailed anthology of Audrey Hepburn’s complete works with behind-the-scene anecdotes that every fan will pore over. I read it all. Most of them I already knew. Some of them I didn’t need to know, like why some of Audrey’s films or marriages flopped. No mystery there. Because they’re bad! Or as Hollywood phrases it, “Not a good fit”.

As a fashion icon, Audrey’s first and favorite couturier Hubert Givenchy is featured prominently. He’s responsible for all of Audrey’s unforgettable classic outfits that only she can fit in and pull off. Otherwise there would be no pictures of Audrey’s signature shots in Roman Holiday, Sabrina, My Fair Lady, and Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Unlike other biographies, this one discusses Audrey’s timeless global appeal, her legacy, her estate, and the secret of her stardom.

“Audrey Hepburn remains the very last golden age larger-than-life movie star for one simple but important reason: careers like hers are no longer possible.”

With this book,  you won’t need to google every little thing about Audrey Hepburn. It spans Audrey’s lifetime with a list of her works and many awards at the end.

The author Mr Santopietro is obviously a fan. But who can resist the allure of Audrey Hepburn? A woman of incredible beauty and grace, who dedicated herself to her own children and the children of the world.

“[S]he used her fame to give back on the largest of international scales, literally saving lives and making the world a better place.”
